The Global Day of Parents was observed globally on 1 June 2016. The Global Day provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.
The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2012 and honours parents throughout the world.
In its resolution, the General Assembly also noted that the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children. It calls for a harmonious development of their personality.
It says that children should be grown in a family environment and in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.
